CATHARSIS MOUNTAIN

2029 — 2040

Cartharsis Mountain is about reckoning. Beginning in a dive bar in the Yukon Territory, the artist will organize a twenty-four hour period of community karaoke annually for 11 years. The happening will be hosted at a new dive bar every year and will end at the originating dive bar in the Yukon Territory. The dive bar will be open to karaoke partipants, onlookers and viewers for the entire twenty-four hour period.

The artist sings one karaoke song every hour of the twenty-four period. She will begin and end with the same song at each happening.

Each dive bar happening will be a benefit to support a local organization of the artist’s choosing. This will be decided only after discussions and talks with local organizations after communicating what their most pertinent community needs are.

The artist will read an essay called “The Tenth Inning” at the conclusion of each happening. The Tenth Inning being a dive bar in Iowa that she was brought to as a child.

This work references chance, local economic systems, and uses karaoke as a means to express a kind of language of the everyday.
