LIKE AN AXE THROUGH THE KNEE (so it be)

2027 - ongoing

Conceived of in 2015, this project has taken some time to realize.

In a gallery/enclosure/exhibition/happening, I will chop wood with an axe, without gloves, until the entire space is filled with chopped wood from floor to ceiling.

With every chop I will recite a number. The numbers do not have a predetermined order.

Eventually I will be unable to enter the gallery/enclosure/exhibition/happening due to the stacked wood. Upon this time I will sing a recitation. Throughout the duration of the wood chopping, I will not be allowed to make eye contact or speak to anyone.

For the remainder of the gallery/enclosure/exhibition/happening , there will be gatherings and performances that will shift dependent on location and participants.

The chopped wood from the gallery/enclosure/exhibition/happening will go to rural families who require it for the winter ahead. This performance should happen only in the season of autumn.

At its culmination (realization of last action in the duration), no wood will be chopped but the full concert (complete with the Rick Russo narrated introduction) from June 8, 1968 by Sun Ra and John Cage will be replicated by musicians and performers at the designated site.
